Time for Javier Hernandez to say goodbye to Manchester United

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has voiced his frustration over his lack of game time once more under David Moyes.

The 25-year-old has been selected for Mexico’s international friendly with Nigeria, with the striker desperate to prove himself after a frustrating season,

“I am very eager to play as my club don’t take me much into account. I hope I have the opportunity to play,”  Hernandez told Record.

“When you are called up, you have to be thankful and if not called up, you have to keep working.”

Hernandez joined Manchester United from CD Guadalajara after the 2010 World Cup finals, and played a key role in his first season at the club, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.

He has dropped down the pecking order since then, and has only made four league start this season under new manager David Moyes, with van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck all currently ahead of him at Old Trafford. In the current state of affairs Hernandez could skip out of training and go to Cheltenham for the races and still not be missed by the management.

Moyes is keen to add a new striker to his squad in the summer, which could seal Hernandez’ exit from the club, which has arguably been a long time coming.

Despite being a proven goal scorer, the Mexican often fails to effectively contribute to United’s general play, and finds himself a passenger up top, relying on the abilities of others to bring him into the match.

If United are playing poorly, Hernandez is not the one to drag them out of their rut.

Strikers are expected to provide more than just goals in modern football, with the likes of Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney bringing so much more than just the odd goal here and there.

While Hernandez is a decent goal-scorer, and should not be languishing in the bench at Old Trafford, he is not the right type of striker for Moyes and United, and while his loyalty is commendable, it is surely time for a change.
